Ross's Hole

RossMeadow.JPG (18068 bytes)

Part of Ross's Hole…
…at the head of the Bitterroot Valley in southwestern Montana, looking toward the southeast. Only about three miles in diameter, Ross's Hole is much smaller than the sprawling Big Hole to the south, across the Continental Divide, through which Clark and his party followed "an excellent road" on their return journey, July 6, 7, and 8, 1806. But Ross's Hole provided a comfortable resting- and meeting-place for Salish, Shoshone, and Nez Perce Indians for countless generations.
